TRAMPOLINING TERMINOLOGY

TERM DESCRIPTION

Arm set

Line out

ensuring the arms start close and straight down the body on take off and then move to a vertical position as soon as the jump leaves the trampoline.
Line out - good technique where trampolinist neatly places arms beside body on completion of shape phase
Gain travel arising from excessive displacement of the hips in initiation of somersault movements; e.g. travelling forwards in a back somersault. Reverse of travel.
Cast sideways travel in a move
Travel travel arising from excessive displacement of the hips in initiation of somersault movements; e.g. travelling forwards in a forward somersault. Reverse of gain.
Bounce roll or porpoise back drop forward somersault to back drop.
Cat twist back drop upside down vertical full twist to back drop.
Roller seat drop full twist to seat drop
Swivel hips seat drop ½ twist to seat drop.
Cradle back drop forward half twist to back drop - corkscrew with 1½ twists.
Turntable front drop side somersault to front drop – half or full.
Aeroplane front drop backward lifting vertical half twist to front drop.
Front Somersault One complete forward rotation in any of the tucked, piked or (lead up to straight barani) straight positions.
Back Somersault One complete backward rotation in any of the tucked, piked or straight positions.
Puck position a body position intermediate between tuck and pike, used in multiple twisting somersaults.
Front twisting somersaults have an odd half twist while back twisting somersaults have a round number of twists. This is to make it easier for the performer to 'spot' the bed prior to landing.
Barani A front somersault with a half twist before landing.
Ball out one and 1/4 front somersault taking off from a back-drop position. Usually performed after a crash dive.
Barani ball out the same as a Ball out, but with one half twist. May also be performed with varying degrees of twist: e.g. rudy or randy ball out.
Arabian ½ twist into front somersault – ¾ back take off then half twist into the front somie.
Rudolph (or Rudy) A single straight front somersault with one and a half twists.
Randolph (or Randy) A single front somersault with two and a half twists.
Adolph (Ady) A single front somersault with three and a half twists.
3/4 Front (Crash Dive) Three quarter straight front somersault that lands in the back drop position.

One and three quarter front somersault (tucked or piked) that lands in the backdrop position
3/4 Back (Lazy Back) Three quarter straight back somersault that lands in front drop position.
Back Cody One and one quarter back somersault from front drop position that lands on feet.
Front Cody Three quarter front somersault from front drop position that lands on feet following a front kaboom with the legs.
Baby fliffus a move starting on the back, early ½ twist into 1¼ back somersault – different phasing to ballout barani.
Back pullover back drop, ¾ back somersault to feet.
Full (or Back Full) A full-twisting straight back somersault.
Full in A double back somersault with a full twist in the first somersault.
Full out A double back somersault with a full twist in the second somersault.
Full in full out A double back somersault with a full twist in each somersault.
Full in half out A double front somersault with a full twist in the first and a half twist in the second.
Double Back A double back somersault (may be performed in tuck, pike, or straight position).
Triple Back A triple back somersault.
Half Out A double front somersault(tucked or piked) with a half twist in the second somersault.
Rudy Out A double front somersault (tucked or piked in the first somersault) with one and a half twists in the second somersault
Cajun/Full In Rudy Out Double front somersault with one twist in the first somersault and 1 1/2 twists in the second somersault
Fliffus Any double somersault with at least one half twist.
Triffus Any triple somersault with at least one half twist.
Quadriffus Any quadruple somersault with at least one half twist.
Double Full A single back somersault with two twists.
Triple Full A single back somersault with three twists.
Miller A double back somersault with one and a half twists in the first and one and a half twists in the second.  Originally done as 2 1/2 twist plus a barani
Miller Plus/ Killer/ Polyiarush A double back somersault with a double full twist in the first and double full twist in the second.

Miller Plus Plus/ Thriller/ Polyiarush Plus
A double back somersault with 5 full twists: either 2½ twists in both the first and second somersaults, or two full twists in the first somersault and three full twists in the second somersault.
Rig overhead apparatus with a belt, ropes, pulleys and fittings allowing the coach to provide remote support for a move whilst learning.
DD or Tariff The degree of difficulty rating that measures the difficulty of specific moves
